Assembly leadership row intensifies

Trouble is brewing at the county assembly over the new house leadership that was unveiled last month.

Some members of the assembly have opposed the election of Moses Ndung’u as majority leader to replace Stanley Karanja, who resigned.

According to the ward reps, the process to pick new office bearers on December 31 was a sham.

Kabazi MCA Peter Mbae (right) has written to the Jubilee Party headquarters, saying the removal of Soin ward MCA Irene Chebichi as chief whip and her deputy, Peter Nyaguthie, was unnecessary and wrong.

“It was a premeditated exercise organised by a section of MCAs who met in a hotel and schemed to replace the house leadership without valid reasons,” Mr Mbae’s letter read.

The ward rep had shown an interest in the position of majority leader.

The row has split the house and is likely to intensify once members resume sittings in February.

Some of the MCAs have accused Mbae of orchestrating a crisis that is likely undermine their work.

Jubilee Party Director of Political Affairs Kadara Swaleh has written to Mbae, accusing him of being dishonest.

Swaleh said he wondered why Mbae was keen on defending the ousted leaders while he was the one who had planned their removal from office.
