The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has cautioned protesters against damaging roads by burning tyres during the anti-IEBC protests.

KeNHA Chairman Erastus Mwongera said the authority would prosecute protesters who burn tyres on paved roads during NASA protests.

“It is estimated that a kilometre of paved road costs in excess of Sh100 million to repair. This translates to Sh100,000 per metre or Sh50,000 per cubic metre of bituminous surface repair. It is for this reason the culprits will have to face full force of the law,” he said.

According to the Kenya Roads Act, 2007 Section 58, any person who unlawfully damages or in any way interferes with any road commits an offence and is liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years, or to a fine not exceeding Sh100,000, or both.
