Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro (pictured) has warned parents who lie about their financial status when seeking school bursaries.
Mung’aro said it was unfair for needy students to miss the bursaries due to some greedy parents.
“Parents should be honest when seeking bursaries. There are so many children missing bursaries since some few individuals have lied about their financial status,” he said.
The governor was speaking when he hosted officials from Mombasa Cement Limited, who offered to give full high school sponsorship to four needy students.
The company’s director for the philanthropy programme, Mr Itiaz Sayani, urged more parents with school fees problems to seek help.
“We will offer the four students full sponsorship, shopping, and all expenses required in their four years of high school education. Parents in need should come out so that they can be assisted,” he said.
Mrs Kadzo Wanje, a mother of twin girls from Marereni village in Magarini Sub County, thanked the company, saying that she was happy since her children will now proceed to high school.
The twins will be enrolled at Mwasere girls high school in Taita Taveta county.

Deputy Governor Florah Chibule said they would vet all students to ensure every needy student gets a scholarship.
“We are going to synchronize our data with those of Members of County Assembly (MCA), the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NGCDF) bursary, the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) and other sponsors to ensure that each student gets a scholarship,” she said.
