Mitchelle Muthami, 13, had promised her parents she'd not let them down.

It was therefore a joy when the news came that she had scored 414 marks.

She was ranked position six out of the 34 pupils that got over 400 in her Premise Academy in Makueni County.

‘‘It came as a surprise. The highest mark I have scored in the past was 402 and the lowest 398,’’ said Mutheu at their home in Githunguri in Utawala, Nairobi.

She said her brother, who is pursuing a course in medicine at the university, and sister, a Form Three student, were her inspiration.

Her parents Wilfred Kimani and Agnes Muthami said they were expecting good performance but not such high marks.
