Put learners on Nemis or no funds: CS

Hundreds of primary schools in the country will miss out on government funding for failing to register pupils through the National Education Management Information System (Nemis).

Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha said that the State had in the past lost billions of shillings while supporting an unknown number of learners.

Prof Magoha admitted that several primary schools had faced challenges in registering learners through the system, adding that they should seek ways of addressing this.

“Any primary school that fails to register its students through Nemis will miss out in this year’s capitation as the government is keen to make sure all students are registered,” he said.

He was speaking when he visited Milimani, Central and DEB primary schools in Naivasha to access progress made in the ongoing Competence Based Curriculum.

Addressing the press, Magoha termed as a cowardly act the Tuesday Al Shaabab attack on a primary school in North Eastern, where four pupils lost their lives.
