NAIROBI, KENYA: Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) has issued a seven-day strike notice following a move by the government to withhold its members’ July pay.

The teachers’ union declared another strike on Wednesday and blamed the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for breaking their part of return-to-work agreement.

KNUT said it will convene a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting next week for further deliberations.

The Union said it has written to TSC over the impending strike.

On Tuesday, TSC wrote to KNUT explaining its intention to withhold members’ July pay.

TSC said it did not commit to pay July’s salary and accused the union of breaching the Employment Act, Labour Relations Act and the Industrial Court order.
