Kuppet, Teachers Service Commission deal headed to Industrial court

KENYA: The deal signed by the Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) with the Teachers Service Commission will be deposited at the Industrial Court on Monday.

This will bind the Government to implement the agreement to pay teachers’ commuter, responsibility, medical and special needs schools allowances within the stipulated 24 months.

The union will from next week engage the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) for the outstanding leave and house allowances for the teachers.

Kuppet Secretary General Akello Misori and national chairman Omboko Milemba on Friday said the deal would benefit all teachers and that the negotiations were not based on a contest with its rival Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut).

“The demands the two unions had made were different,” Misori said, adding: “We are going to engage the Salaries Remuneration Commission (SRC) from next week for implementation of leave and house allowances which are outstanding,” Misori said.
