Makueni leaders eulogize Moi

Makueni leaders, among them Governor Kivutha Kibwana and County Commissioner Maaalim Mohammed, have eulogised retired President Daniel Moi as a statesman who expanded education in Kenya.

Kivutha said in Makueni County Moi started several primary schools and secondary schools such as St. Joseph’s Girls Kibwezi, Nyayo Girls-Malili and Moi Girls-Kiundwani.

He also ensured the schools got electricity and clean water.

“Moi contributed much in primary, secondary and university education. He started universities and it is worthy to note that he used several leaders from the grassroots to identify various problems affecting such regions,” said Kibwana.

He described the former president as a man of God who used the church to unite people and never held grudges against other leaders. He pointed at his generosity that led to the building of various churches.

County Commissioner Maalim eulogised President Moi as an astute leader to be remembered for his great efforts in consolidating peace during his 24 years in office.

“Moi foresaw the current devolution through starting District Focus for Rural Development and in this region, he ensured the road connecting Machakos town and Wote town among other developments.

“Let all leaders in Kenya borrow a leaf from the former Head of State and move from their offices to the ground to see what is affecting Kenyans,” said Maalim. Peter Maundu, former Makueni MP, once an assistant Minster in the Ministry of Agriculture and Office of the President during Moi’s era, described him as a leader who valued youth in leadership.

“Moi’s Cabinet had people from almost every corner of the republic. He was not a person to hold grudges and he loved youth as a visionary and true leader who was patriotic,” said Maundu.
