Kitui assembly alarmed by stalled county projects

The Kitui County Assembly has expressed regrets and dissatisfaction over a number of development projects initiated in the wards by former county administration in 2013 but either stalled, were neglected or sabotaged.

The assembly endorsed a report on the findings on the status of the projects with demands for swift implementation by Governor Charity Ngilu’s executive.

Tabling the report in the House, Liaison committee chairman and Kisasi MCA Emeritius Musya said Ngilu’s administration faced challenges in the Vocational Training centres, Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), health, water, land and infrastructure departments.

Musya said they are petitioning the Executive to implement the findings on the status of projects launched during former Governor Julius Malombe's tenure.

The assembly debated the report compiled during an inspection tour between February 20 and March 2 on government projects.

The committee’s chairman implored on Ngilu and her administration to abide by the report’s recommendations for the county to develop.

When speaker George Ndotto put the question on the report’s adoption, the whole House rolled back in affirmative.

Musya said the inspection tour was a worthwhile task for the sectorial committee in getting opportunity to get facts on the ground, hence, coming up with useful findings and recommendations.

He said the committee visited all 40 wards to inspect and familiarise themselves with development initiated during Malombe’s administration and his successor, Ngilu.

The chairman said the tour involved visiting at least two projects in each ward and interacting with residents to get their views.

The Assembly resumed sittings in February with a vow to execute its mandate to oversee the executive without malice, witch-hunt or prejudice.

The MCAs said all elected leaders, the church, the business community, professionals and the people of Kitui will demand transparency in the use of public resources.
