Meru Governor Peter Munya wants the Government to start land adjudication in Gambela and Ngaremara on the disputed border with Isiolo County.

He said he was privy to attempts by a section of area leaders to grab huge tracts of land belonging to the community. He said as the Governor, he would resist attempts to grab the land meant for residents of Kiare, Gambela and Kandebene areas bordering Isiolo County.

“Those who have been living here should get the title deeds. They want land to build schools, health centres and other public amenities. But there are people who want to take the land through a dubious adjudication process,” Mr Munya (pictured) said.

He appealed to Lands Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi to intervene. ‘’This is trust land, meaning it belongs to the public. I will not allow it to be taken away from them.

I will speak with CS Kaimenyi and ask him to provide us with a competent land officer who will resist politicians’ attempt to grab it,” the governor said in Kandebene, on Thursday.

Munya said the residents will form a land committee composed of land owners from all villages to do an inclusive adjudication. The land is in the section whose ownership had been disputed by Meru and Isiolo counties.
