Machakos, Kenya: Stephen Mule of Wiper Democratic Party Thursday emerged the victor in Matungulu Constituency by-election beating his rival in New Democratic party Thomas Musau.

After vote tallying in all 117 polling stations, provisional results showed that Mule had 11,639 votes, Musau 8,951 with Moffat Maitha managing5,965 votes.

The by-election follows a successful High Court petition filed by immediate former MP Stephen Mule’s opponents that overturned the election of the former Wiper party MP on March 4.

One of Machakos County’s newest constituencies, Matungulu’s land mass measures approximately 577 square kilometres with a population of about 130,000 and 47, 838 registered voters.
