A man slashed his nonagenarian father to death and critically injured his cousin and son in Kasarani location, Tharaka South District, following a disagreement over grazing land.

The suspect then surrendered himself to the police after committing the heinous act.

Quarrel

OCPD Patrick Wambani said trouble started when the father told his son not to graze his livestock on his brother’s piece of land, leading to a quarrel between the two where the the suspect accused the family of ganging up against him.

The suspect, 63, took a machete and starting chasing everybody in sight.

“An attempt by his father to stop him turned tragic when the son slashed him several times with the sharp machete,” said the OCPD.

Critical condition

He said his cousin, John Kithaka, 47, is admitted at Marimanti District Hospital in a critical condition with severe panga cuts on the stomach, while the suspect’s 16-year-old-son was treated and discharged after suffering head cuts.

Wambani said the body was taken to Meru Level-5 Hospital mortuary, adding that the suspect would be arraigned in court once investigations are completed.

He warned residents against taking the law into their hands, and urged them to seek the help of the Provincial Administration and elders to resolve disagreements.
