Man’s ‘devil worship’ shocks village

By Charles Ngeno

A man who confessed to be a devil worshipper before he passed on a few days later has left residents of Kyogong area, Bomet County, in shock.

The man, who had been suffering from an ailment that doctors could not diagnose, is said to have sent for a pastor to pray for him when his tongue turned scaly.

After the prayer sessions, he made a confession that villagers swore could have been borrowed from a sinister a Nollywood movie.

The man said he was arrested in 1972 after killing his brother. It is at the remand that he met a Tanzanian who told him that if he wanted to win the case, he would take him to Tanzania where he would be ‘empowered’.

Paraphernalia

In Tanzania, he was given a ring, three sticks, a lion skin and a snake. The paraphernalia allegedly cost him Sh120,000.

The ring, he was told, would make him win all boundary and family disputes. The snake was to be a source of protection.

On his deathbed, the man confessed that the snake had cost him heavily since it chewed a packet of chewing gum and drank five litres of water daily.

He further admitted that the snake occasionally crossed the road to go and quench its thirst at the river, causing deadly road accidents.

The man also admitted to have been responsible for the death of his four sons, his sister’s children and several other relatives. More shocking is the fact that he made his sister, who knew of his evil ways, insane.

Devour

The man admitted that he had used the three sticks to cause discord in families and the lion skin to protect him from physical harm.

He, however, warned his relatives not to wail when he died saying the snake would devour them all.

News of his death was thus whispered from one person to the other.

He bequeathed the reptile to one of his uncles, but surprisingly, the snake disappeared mysteriously after his death.

A local provincial administration official who requested anonymity confirmed the incident.

A pastor who had gone to pray for him regretted that the man died before repenting.

He called upon those who could have been inducted into devil worshiping to denounce their evil deeds and repent.

A copy of the confession has been left in every photocopying shop in Bomet and Longisa for members of the public to get their copies.
