Over 70 students from Amabuko Mixed Secondary School, Kisii admitted over alleged food poisoning

More than 70 students from Amabuko Mixed Secondary School in Masaba South, Kisii County have been admitted to various hospitals after they complained of abdominal pains.

The School Principal Rawlings Juma said the affected students complained of stomach upsets and abdominal pains early Monday morning.

"We immediately made arrangements and took them to various hospitals within Keroka town where they are currently receiving treatment."

The students have been admitted to Gucha Hospital in Keroka, St. Catherine Inchuni Mission Hospital, and Keroka Sub County Hospital.

20 students have so far been referred to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Kisii County Director of Education Philip Chirchir says Government officials from the Ministry are assessing the situation at the school.

"This is a day and boarding mixed school and we want to get facts on the cause. We have information of food poisoning but this can only be confirmed by the Medical Officers."
