Young golfers recorded mixed pot of results at Diamond Leisure Course in Diani

It was total excitement and joy for over 55 young golfers of various ages showcasing their skills at the  Diani’s par 72 Diamonds Leisure Beach and Golf Resort Course in the South Coast of Mombasa, Kwale County on Sunday.

This was during the US-Kids Mombasa Local Tour’s event played over 9 and 18 holes for the age categories of 5 to 18 years from both the both Boys and Girls where it was flagged off by Kwale County Government CECM, Tourism, and Trade & Enterprise Development Michael M. Mutua.

Present were also the Tournament Director Kailash Chauhan, host and Director Diani Sea Resort and Diani Lodge Silvia Kampa, the Junior Golf  Foundation (JGF)  oast Representative May Mariga, and other officials of JGF-Golf for Kids, U.S. Kids and co-sponsors ICEALION Group and NCBA Bank.

The Mombasa team of boys and Girls and the South Coast team of Ukunda and Diani dominated the leaderboard in most of the Categories as the majority of Parents escorted their young ones across the challenging course.

In the boys aged 15 to 18 years categories, Gibson Chola of Mombasa team  took the lead  on a count back  score of  111 gross after tying  on the same score with  his  colleague  Elvis Nicholas  who was the runners up  and taking the third slot on 117 gross was Havas Maghanga also from Mombasa team.

Vipingo’s Tatiana Genevieve  was the winner  of the same age  group  on 98 gross, while Mombasa’s Faith Achieng on 102 gross and colleague  Vivian Adhiambo with 18 gross were  the runners up and third placed respectively.

For the  13 to 15 years boys ,Mombasa’s Krish Vekaria  emerged  the winner on a count back score of 97 gross tying on the same score with second placed  colleague Tonny Gachau  and  Mwai Mariga also from Mombasa team was third with 103 gross.

The girls 11 to 12 years old group was won by Ukunda’s Elena Kampa who returned a score of 111 gross, while Nairobi’s Randy Turi was second on 137gross.

Tournament Director Kailash Chauhan said NCBA and ICEALION have once again demonstrated to be a valuable partner when it comes to supporting the growth and development of junior golf in Kenya, and for the first time to bring the tour to the coastal region of the country.

“This would not have been possible without the presence and support of Silvia Kampa, Director-Diani Sea Resort and Diani Lodge and also the Junior Golf Convener-Diamond Leisure, Junior Golf Foundation-Golf for kids, U.S. Kids and co-sponsors ICEALION Group and NCBA Bank, “said Chauhan.

JGF Coast Representative Mary Mariga thanked the parents for bringing their children to the tournament in such a large number where the noted that the junior tournament aims to tap, nurture and grow talents among junior golfers across the region.

Action now moves to Vipingo on September 3rd, then back to Diamond, then Nyali golf and Country club will be the host on October, 01st.

It will then move back to Diamonds Leisure Beach and Golf Resort Club on October, 21st and October 22nd before the finale at the Nyali Golf and Country Club on October29th;
