Cooperative University students protest murder of third-year colleague

Vincent Omwamba, the deceased, was a third-year student of Information Technology at Cooperative University.

University and college students living in Gataka area of Ongata Rongai, Kajiado County, took to the streets on Thursday morning, protesting the attack and murder of one of their own.

Vincent Omwamba, the deceased, was a third-year student of Information Technology at Cooperative University, Karen, Nairobi.

He was stabbed several times by people suspected to be robbers.

According to the area Sub-County Police Commander, Joakim Mecha, Omwamba was attacked at around 1 am on Thursday.

He has also told The Standard that Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers have taken over the investigations.

“We have recorded some statements from his neighbours and are looking at all scenarios. We have crucial data that we believe will help us nail his killers” Mecha said.

The police are yet to establish the motive behind the murder.

However, eyewitnesses have disputed police information, saying he was attacked by unknown people at around 11:30 pm.

According to them, Omwamba was walking home in the company of his two friends when they were attacked.

The two managed to escape, leaving him to battle the attackers.

Aside from inflicting stab wounds on his body, they took away his phone and bag.

He was rushed to a hospital in Rongai before he was referred to the Kenyatta National Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

His body is preserved at the hospital’s morgue awaiting autopsy.
