Vihiga United on Wednesday ended APS Bomet's unbeaten run in the National Super- League.

Vihiga narrowly beat the APS 2-1 in a hotly contested match at Mumias Sports Complex. Vihiga took the lead 11 minutes into the game taking advantage of a defence lapse by their opponents.

After the breather, the hosts braved a heavy downpour to extend their lead in the 60th minute.

The second goal saw APS make changes in their squad bridging in two strikers, a move that tilted the tempo of the game, which saw the visitors score in the 80th minute.

Brian Ngala netted the goal after staging a solo run from the centre of the field before firing a superb home a few metres from the box.

The loss saw Mombasa Elites move to the top of the table for the first time. APS are second with 15 points.

In another match, Mombasa Elites edged league's debutants Mara Sugar FC 3-2 at Mbaraki Stadium.

Kelvin Akimat scored Mombasa Elites's opener in the 20th minute to send the home fans wild.

Akimat was at it again four minutes into the first half as he danced past his markers before firing home.

After the breather, a re-energised Mara Sugar put up a spirited fight mounting pressure on the hosts as they launched several attacks that saw them pull one back in the 55th minute.

A mistake by the visitors saw Mombasa Elites extend their lead in the 64th minute through an own goal. This didn't kill the visitor's fighting spirit as they continued launching endless attacks.

Their efforts yielded a second goal in the dying moments of the game.

Earlier at the same venue, Coastal Heroes hammered Muranga Seals 3-0 to move fourth on the log.

The win increased Heroes' hopes of ascending to the Kenyan Premier League despite missing their weekend match against Shabana FC in Awendo on Saturday.

Coach Hussein Mohamed said the win was a clear signal of their intention of winning the league and earning a promotion next season.

Former Premier league side Kisumu All-Stars joined the midweek party after sending off debutants SS Assad FC 3-0.

There was no party for Silibwet Leons FC, however, after they were held to a barren draw by Fortune Sacco.
