Home golfer Nancy Kariuki shines at Lady captain tournament

Home golfer Nancy Kariuki outclassed 140 golfers to win the 2021 Lady Captain Prize at the par 72 Kenya Railway Golf Club on Saturday.

Playing off handicap 18, Kariuki staged a good in the tournament organised by the club’s lady captain Millicent Mello as she carded 35 stableford points.

KRNGC ladies golf section won the Francombe Shield contest, which brought together golfers with handicap 20 and below.

Martha Njama, playing off handicap 35, emerged second with 35 stableford points ahead of Makena Mwenda, who posted 34 stableford points. Wanjiru Karume, handicap eight and the former Kenya one lady golfer, returned fourth with 33 stableford points.

In men’s showdown, handicap nine Sho Onyango fired 40 stableford points to beat Geoffrey Yego, handicap 10, who posted 38 points.

Kenya Ladies Golf Union (KLGU) chairperson Sarah Hoare won Guest Lady Prize with 28 stableford points.

At the par 72 Vetlab Sports Club, Shubh Shah emerged the overall winner during vice chairman (Mary Maingi) Putter.
