Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board to launch revamped Yearbook

A decade after the first Kenya Yearbook was launched, the Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board (KYEB) is releasing a revamped edition of its flagship publication.

The Board has several sectoral publications as well, that will be launched earlier to create momentum for the revamped Kenya Yearbook publication.

First in line is The Moi Cabinets, 24 years Nyayo Era, which will be launched on October 10, 2020 in partnership with the Standard Group. The publication is part of the country’s biographical series, which started with the Kenyatta Cabinets.

This book provides a window into how Moi moulded his cabinets to his style of leadership. It also provides a link to for the post-Independence generation to Kenya’s past.

This will be followed by Towards Food Security, a book that highlights the impact of technology on the modern farm. The publication particularly targets youth with specific advice on how to take advantage of the opportunities in modern AgroInnovation. The book will be launched on October 15, 2020.

October 20, 2020, the Board will launch Road to Universal Health Coverage.

Finally, Kenya Yearbook 2020, which for the first time will be complemented by a Kenya Factbook 2020, will be launched on October 29, 2020.

The Government’s vision and development agenda for the next three years are focused on Food Security, Manufacturing, Affordable Housing and Universal Healthcare under the Kenya Vision 2030.

This development roadmap promotes value-addition in agriculture and manufacturing, creating jobs for young people, making primary healthcare services available to all Kenyans and providing decent and affordable housing.

All these agendas are linked up by the concept of social cohesion and rebuilding the economy, which is the theme of Kenya Yearbook 2020. The first edition of the Yearbook was printed in 2010, and successive editions over the decade have increased public knowledge of Kenya’s socio-economic path.

The 2010 edition was a 1,150-page tome marking the epochal Constitution-making process that eventually ushered in a new nation.

This was followed in 2013/14 by an 1,190-page review of the nation’s progress since Independence to mark Kenya’s silver jubilee.

This year’s edition captures the nation’s resilience in the face of massive challenges, a resilience rooted in timeless values that have defined our great nation since Independence.

“A decade is long enough to take stock of achievements, make reflections and chart the next path to a better tomorrow. The Kenya Yearbook 2020 is certainly more informative, educative and colourful. Worth noting is that the edition has grown the Yearbook series beyond just a documentation of annual developments in all social and economic sectors of Kenya. The Kenya Yearbook 2020 that we will launch on 22nd October 2020 is a call for a return to the values that will cement national unity and social cohesion as we pursue our dream to become a newly industrialised nation. It also highlights key milestones in battling the dreaded COVIC-19 pandemic,” said the Editorial Board.

In line with the focus on social cohesion, the chapters in Kenya Yearbook 2020 are clustered with key pillars. These are Our Country Our People; Economic and Social Inclusion; Defence and National Security; and Judiciary: Justice as our Shield & Defender. Interesting chapters in the book are One Nation One Flag; Our Diversity Our Heritage; National Sovereignty and Self Determination; Agro Innovation; Affordable Housing; Infrastructure; Public Service; Foreign Affairs; and Sports.

“This edition is more friendly to read and informs the reader on progress by the Government towards sustainable economic growth. It is our hope that it will provoke conversations that inspire the citizens to fully embrace their part in national development,” said KYEB.

The message in Kenya Yearbook 2020 is: We have come from far and are better prepared, so let us move forward with hope.

“This approach makes the publication more interesting and friendly to read, and serves to inform the reader of the role played by the Government as it seeks to make us safe and economically sound. It provokes a conversation that will inspire the citizen to play a part in national development. Information is the power that citizens need. They also need to be updated on events and measures in place to improve their livelihood,” said KYEB Chief Executive Officer Edward Mwasi when commenting on the latest edition of the Yearbook.

Apart from the Yearbook, KYEB will launch several other publications this quarter including: Road to Universal Health Coverage, Towards Food Security, and a biographical Series on Cabinet Ministers who served under Mzee Moi.

Kenya Yearbook Editorial Board is a State corporation under the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology that produces and disseminates publications to local and international audiences.
