The Jacaranda Estate says apartment not locked

The Jacaranda Garden Estate in Nairobi has taken a U-turn on a recent statement it had issued on putting the estate on 'lockdown'.

The Roysambu constituency-based estate had been on the limelight in the past few hours after it issued a statement asking all residents to self-isolate following confirmation of Covid-19 cases within the apartment.

However, the latest report from the management who spoke exclusively to the Standard Digital says the notice put out was erroneous.

“The document was not signed by the authorizing official, thus it was not valid. However, we have asked that members stay calm as the situation is under control, “said an administrator who sought anonymity.

The source continued to say the document was yet to be passed to the top management of the estate for official directions before unknown persons leaked it.

“The notice was strictly meant to be consumed internally, after approvals were made, “added the source.

However, this is just their side of the story. Our efforts to get a statement from the ministry of health officials to confirm or deny the details of the notice were futile.

The company has recently issued another notice that was issued a few minutes ago. The letter from the management, whose undersigned had a Chinese name, apologized for the errors in the first letter.

“We hereby correct and apologize for earlier communication…” read the new notice. “We have two confirmed cases of Covid-19 in one of the apartments within the Estate,” continued the notice in part.

The management, however, clarified that only the affected household would be required to self-isolate.

The rest would continue with their daily activities while adhering to the Ministry of Health guidelines on curbing the spread of coronavirus.

Visibly, there was an eerie of silence inside the precinct with occasional one or two people crossing through.

The parking lot was packed. Many vehicles grounded as residents stayed indoors, while others peeped through the balconies, perhaps in compliance with the notice that was issued earlier.
The management had directed tenants to self-isolate for 14 days following the confirmation of coronavirus in the estate.

"The management in collaboration with MoH Roysambu sub-county Covid-19 response team wishes to inform residents that we have confirmed Covid-19 patients in the estate.

"Following this development, we are advised to request residents to isolate themselves with their children for fourteen days to avoid more contact," read the notice.

This comes as the Covid-19 cases in the country surge, reaching high peaks with a competing pace.

Out of the total cases, Nairobi accounts for more than half of the numbers, followed by Mombasa County with close to 2,000 cases so far.

The death toll has also surpassed the 200 mark as the deadly virus continues to ravage the country.

The Kahawa West, Kamiti-road apartment hosts about 2500 people with about 840 units. Several tenants are foreigners.
