Panic as transformer blows up at Daystar University

By Japheth Ogila | December 4th 2019

A transformer has blown up at Daystar University, Valley road campus, in Nairobi. The Wednesday evening incident inflicted fear on students and motorists forcing them to scamper for safety.

A footage shared on social media depicts flames engulfing the transformer as smoke billows from it.

A video clip shared by Standard Digital Videos depicted a parked vehicle already on fire with no fire brigade on site.

Kenya Power is yet to issue a statement on the incident.

Daystar University Security Office, later on, issued a statement confirming that the incident took place at a car park at 4.20pm today, but there was adequate response to avert further damage.

“The incident was successfully responded to by our students and staff. Unfortunately, one vehicle belonging to our student was burnt,” read the statement, signed by security officer Major Rtd Steve Leakono.

The university also revealed that they had already filed a complaint with KPLC who were already on the ground to address the issue.
