The Export Processing Zone Authority management has condemned a crackdown by the National Environment Management Authority (Nema).

Acting CEO George Makateto yesterday claimed that the manner in which Nema officials were carrying out the exercise would scare away investors.

Mr Makateto said more than 25,000 jobs were at risk following threats to close the zone over accusations they are polluting the environment.

Nema board chairman John Konchella and other top officers had threatened to arrest senior EPZ officers over claims the zone was diverting waste into River Athi.

The board also issued a one-month notice to EPZA to de-commission an open solid dumpsite in their premises.
