State to conduct massive teacher training on curriculum

Kenya Institute for Curriculum Development (KICD) Director Julius Jwan

The Government will soon begin training teachers in readiness for implementation of the new curriculum next year.

Kenya Institute for Curriculum Development (KICD) Director Julius Jwan said training would start after the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams.

Dr Jwan said the training was meant to equip primary school teachers with necessary skills to implement the new curriculum effectively.

"After the training, KICD will hand the teachers to the Teachers Service Commission for continuous professional development," said Jwan in Homa Bay town yesterday, when he officially opened the container carrying KCPE examination papers.

He said results of a pilot project had shown the new system of education would benefit learners and the country.

"We will begin with pre-primary and lower primary schools and progress gradually to subsequent levels of education. We will also ensure a smooth transition from primary to secondary school," he said.
