The NGO’s co-ordination board has issued a notice of de-listing to Key Empowerment Foundation, an organisation associated with NASA leader Raila Odinga’s daughter, Rosemary Odinga.

‘’Your organisation is operating an illegal bank account contrary to provisions of the NGO co-ordination Act and attendant regulations,” board Executive Director Fazul Mahamed said in a letter to the foundation.

In the letter dated August 4, the board said in accordance with the section 16 of the NGO co-ordination Act 1990, they have advised the Central Bank of Kenya to freeze the accounts of the organisation.

According to the board, the NGO had received Sh530 million from the George Soros Foundation. Even as Fazul claims so, there is no foundation going by the name George Soros Foundation and neither was the bank where the account is held named.

Earlier in the week, Raila’s lawyer Paul Mwangi wrote to Fazul and said the NGO’s registration certificate was still at the board’s office and thus it has not opened any bank account. The frozen account, the board added, is being held at a city bank under “payment of Nasa presidential agents”.

Officials of the foundation include Meshack Odede (secretary), Harold Omondi (treasurer), Sandra Adhiambo and Salome Owuonda, who are board members.
