Villagers carrying bows gathered around DP William Ruto's home as news of the attack broke, threatening to storm the compound.

Only quick action from the security forces prevented the villagers from storming the compound, saying they wanted to 'assist the police' to arrest the attackers.
 

Among those who wanted to enter the compound were men and children, who were however kept away from the gate by the security men.
 

The road leading to the DP's compound was impassable as crowds milled around the air, even as gun shots rent the air.
 

Politicians from the region were among the first lot arrive at the scene, among them Nandi Hills MP, Alfred Keter and his Kapseret counterpart, Oscar Sudi.
 

As Recce squad officers entered the compound, the villagers clapped, encouraging them to flush out the attackers.
 

"If the DP's house is not safe, who else is safe?" some of the villagers wondered.
There were also concerns that the operation going late into the night
"We are worried about what might happen if the operation goes till up to late," said another villager.
