Matiangi says security operation in Baringo, Laikipia, to go on

The acting Interior Cabinet Secretary has said the ongoing security operation in parts of Laikipia and Baringo counties will not be halted as the country prepares for the August 8 elections.

Dr Fred Mating'i said the Government would not sit back and watch as criminals terrorise citizens, adding that numerous incidents of insecurity in Laikipia have affected the country's economy.

The CS was speaking in Nakuru, where he met security teams to discuss election preparedness. He was accompanied by Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Wanyama Musiambo.

Former Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery gazetted Arabal, Kiserian, Mochongoi, Rugus, Mukutani, Chebinyinyi, Komolion, Chepkalacha, Makutano, Paka, Orus, Loiywat, Silale, Nando, Tangulbei, Chepkererat, Kipnai, Ng'oron, and Amaya in Baringo as 'dangerous zones'.

Seven areas were gazetted in Laikipia - Rumuruti, Ol Moran, Kirimon, Marmanet, Mukogodo East, Segera, Mithiga, and Mutuiku.

Matiang'i assured the people displaced from their homes in Laikipia and Baringo counties that they would cast their votes. [Mercy Kahenda and Mercy Kulei]
