Thousands of students from poor and disadvantaged families have reason to smile after Nyamira County began distributing a Sh100m bursary fund.

The kitty, which was launched four months ago, will see vulnerable children and those from poor families awarded Sh10,000 each.

Governor John Nyagarama said the fund would be boosted by Sh200 million in the next financial year. More than 5,000 learners applied for the bursary but only 2,000 were shortlisted.
