Former Ghana Women’s Premier League champions Hasaacas Ladies FC have expressed interest in three of the national team, Harambee Starlets’ players.
The attacking trio of Esse Akida (Spedag), Mary Kinuthia (Thika Queens) and Vivian Corazone (Soccer Queens) have been described by Hasaacas coach Yusif Basigi as quality and talented players who can easily fit in his team.
This is following their splendid performance in their Africa Women’s Cup of Nations debut match against the Black Queens of Ghana in which they lost 3-1.
Despite giving his side a run for their money in Group B opening match in Limbe, Basigi who doubles up as the Ghanaian national team coach, is willing to offer the three a contract at Hasaacas.
Hasaacas won the league title three times in a row before Ampem Darkoa Ladies recently ended the Western Region side’s monopoly by stunning them 1-0 in September’s championship play-off.
“I am surprised to hear that the Kenyan team is only comprised of local-based players. They have very talented and quality players who deserve to play abroad,” Basigi told Feverpitch.
“As a coach, I would love to have a player like Akida (Esse), Kinuthia (Mary) and Corazone (Vivian) at my club. There is a very big chance for them to fit into my system; I wish I could just sign them. I am ready to open negotiations with the concerned authorities.
"I cannot believe that they have been together for less than a year. I am very much impressed with them unless you play them you will think they are not doing well. This is a team to watch," added Basigi, who has been at Hasaacas for the last 14 years.
