Governor John Mruttu has said he will reshuffle his cabinet ahead of year’s elections.

The move to shake up his administration is seen as a strategy to improve service delivery and restore public confidence among the electorate ahead of the polls.

Addressing members of the public who turned up for the Wundanyi sub-county dialogue meeting yesterday, the governor announced that he would reconstitute his government next week.

Mr Mruttu was accompanied by county executives Jemimah Tuja (Education), Gifton Mkaya (Health), Ben Mgana (Agriculture), several county chief officers and members of the County Public Service Board.

CABINET SACKED

Mr Mruttu’s close allies told The Standard that the review and reconstitution of the county government will see some members of his cabinet sacked.

“There will be a major shakeup and several heads will roll,” said a close ally of the governor.

Public Works and Roads Executive Elijah Mwandoe and his Agriculture counterpart Ben Mgana are among those who have, so far, declared interest to join politics and would likely be replaced in the re-organisation of the government.

Mwandoe has expressed interest to vie for the county’s Senate seat on a Wiper ticket and is currently one of the party’s co-ordinators in the region, while Mgana will vie for the Mwatate parliamentary seat.

Mwandoe had earlier announced that he would relinquish his position next month to join active politics.

Mruttu’s political rival Thomas Mwadeghu, who is the Wundanyi MP, had told the governor to sack county staff who have joined politics.

“It is wrong for public servants to campaign while in office,’’ he said.
