Sh135m milk coolers to be given out

The Government will distribute 35 milk coolers worth Sh135 million in the next one month.

Deputy President William Ruto said the region was one of the milk-producing areas and the sector needed more support.

"We do not want a case where we witness a milk glut. The coolers will help store the milk before it is delivered to the market," he said.

Governor Daniel Waithaka said this was a milestone for the dairy sector.

"This is good news to our farmers as their milk will not be going to waste as has happened there before. We want to assure the national government that we will offer the land where the coolers will be placed," he said.

The governor urged the Government to support the move to have potatoes packed in 50kg bags. This, he said, was to end the exploitation of farmers by brokers.

"The courts have been our biggest problem since middlemen use them to block the new initiative," he said.
