A woman who allegedly stabbed her husband to death in a row over a plate of githeri has denied the charges.

Appearing at Kakamega High Court yesterday, Rose Mmbaka Mmihanda said she was ready to face her accusers.

Mrs Mmihanda, 68, told Judge Chacha Mwita that she did not murder Maurice Otunga on March 26 at Ikuywa village, Khayega in Kakamega East, as her charge sheet read.

“Sio ukweli, ni uongo (It’s not true, it’s a lie),” she said in after requesting the court to use a language she could easily understand. Through her advocate Brian Minishi, Mmihanda requested for witness statements, exhibits and any other documentary evidence the prosecution wished to rely on.

Court prosecutor Patrick Oroni, however, assured her he had prosecution witnesses to testify against her including an investigating officer and one eye witness, Antony Shivachi.

The prosecution had previously asked for time to have the woman undergo a psychiatric test to gauge whether she was fit for trial.

The case will be heard on July 27.
