Sh50 bribes killing Kenyans on our roads

Laws have been passed that drivers should adhere to in order to avoid apprehension because of their recklessness.

However tough the talk is, there's no one to walk it. Despite the tough talk, trivial accidents that could have been avoided still happen.

Majority of people are losing their lives, loved ones and others are left crippled. Truth be told, traffic police officers are not entirely efficient as they are.

Some are taking bribes oblivious of the fact that the vehicle might be overloaded with passengers or over-speeding.

The dues are at fifty shillings and with a fifty shilling note lives are lost. When will this bribing menace be eradicated?

Motorists are also known to over-speed and for their deliberate breaking of traffic rules. The NTSA therefore has a huge role to play other than launching huge crackdowns and tough talks.

It is high time to act and act swiftly as statistics of deaths caused by road accidents are sky-rocketing.

Even as the NTSA improves on its role in public awareness, it should be more vigilant in fighting this vice if it seeks to end recklessness of drivers and motorists.
