Flaws can make us stronger

Sometimes, when doodling, the greatest artworks are born, and live to be admired by all.

While doodling, the artist will not pay much attention to the strokes of his open; as if guided by instinct, his hands and fingers move until instinctively, they stop.

Most often while at it, the artist may have serious moments of doubt, but all these are allayed when the final image is done.

Most great artists have realised this: they know that what they are creating is based mostly on an abstract feeling.

And feelings can sometimes be jumbled, and sometimes there are just no right or wrong feelings.

Welcome to the world of imperfection.

Imperfection is what makes man.

Even though most of man’s life is spent craving for perfection, he has realised his creative genius when he has made great mistakes.

Someone once said that broken posts last longer, often because they are handled with care.

Reminds me of the story of the water bearer in India.

She had two large pots, one hung on each end of a pole, which she carried across her back.

For two years, the broken pot was bitter and ashamed for delivering only half a load as it leaked because of a crack on its side.

The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in her compassion told her:

“As we return to the mistress’s house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path.”

The old cracked pot took notice of the beautiful wildflowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it.

Each of us has our own unique flaws. The cracks and flaws we have make societal living interesting and rewarding.

Of course, it is only human to feel ashamed of our imperfections because they curtail us from accomplishing our goals fully.

This said, it is because of our imperfections and brokenness that makes you treat a loved one with care because you know the pain of betrayal, the pain of a broken heart.

Your imperfections and brokenness make you value your job because you know the inconvenience of not having a job.

They make you more careful with your investments because you know what it means to lose on an investment.

That imperfection and brokenness will make that adopted orphan value his new parents because he knows the agony of not having a family to go home to.

Have you ever noticed that stray pets when rescued are most loyal? They finally appreciate having a master and must know what loneliness is all about.

Value your imperfections today. They make that interesting difference to the world.
