Class eight Pupil attacks, injures teacher over classwork in Mombasa

Police in Likoni, Mombasa County, say they are pursuing a 13-year-old Standard Eight pupil who attacked a teacher and injured him.

The boy reportedly stormed out of the school located in Likoni after he was scolded for not doing his assignments and later returned with three strangers.

Together, they attacked the teacher with stones, injuring him on his hands and on one eye. The authorities did not name the attackers and the teacher.

The boy ran away but his parents came to unleash more chaos at school in defence of their child as the injured teacher sought medical help. He also reported the matter to the police.

“Today morning we received a report that a teacher of Joyland Academy was assaulted by a pupil who was accompanied by three other people who were non-students.

“It is reported that the teacher had asked the boy why he had not done his assignment and he quickly stormed out of the classroom and returned with the three men who hurled stones at the teacher, injuring him,” Likoni OCPD Willy Simba said.

 RECORDED STATEMENT

The teacher was taken to Likoni District Hospital where he was treated and discharged. Yesterday morning, the teacher recorded a statement with the police after filling a P3 form.

The boy is reported to have gone missing after the incident after he learnt that he was being sought by the police.

It is alleged that the boy’s parents went to the school and caused mayhem, saying their son could not have done such a thing.

Reports also indicated yesterday that the school was closed due to the incident. However, Simba dismissed the claim and said the school had closed for half-term break.

“The school has not been closed, what I know is that the students have taken the half-term break. I want to assure the school management and the public that we will not rest until we apprehend the pupil and his accomplices,” the police boss said.
