"Let my sister have it." Those were the words of a man with disability who decided to donate a wheelchair that had been donated to him to a woman whose situation he thought was more desperate than his.

Wilson Ngoyo left some of those present on the verge of tears when he gave the special chair to Beatrice Akinyi, a paralytic, immediately it was donated to him.

Ngoya had graced an event where Butere MP Andrew Toboso distributed Sh10 million in bursaries to secondary and university students and wheelchairs where he (Ngoya) was expected to take one home.

After being handed the wheelchair, he expressed his gratitude for the donation and then, speaking shyly, immediately donated it to his "sister".

"I decided to hand over the chair because my sister Akinyi, who I met today, looks more deserving than me. I can survive without a chair for the time being," he said.

Ngoya then walked away, supporting his weight on a 4.5 feet stick.

Annet Omukuba, the coordinator of people living with disabilities in Butere and Kwisero Constituency, admitted that it takes a big heart to do such a thing.

"The people living with disabilities understand each other but that is a rare one," she said at Buchenya Girls High School where for the first time, people with disabilities in Butere received bursaries courtesy of the Constituency Development Fund. Some 32 wheelchairs were also distributed.

Toboso, who was also moved by Ngoya's gesture, urged Kenyans to look after the needy in the society.

The MP took issue with ceaseless battles between ward administrators and Members of County Assembly over the list of bursary beneficiaries.

"Don't disburse the money on the basis of who you know, but make a genuine assessment and ensure orphans, children of widows, genuine and deserving cases like people with disabilities get the money," said he.

Some 1,120 students from the constituency benefited from the bursaries, 850 of them secondary school students.
