Senior police officer shot 17 times by unknown gunmen in Kahawa West, Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya: A senior police officer and a civilian were Tuesday night shot dead in cold blood and robbed of his gun in a drive by shooting in Kahawa West area, Nairobi.

Inspector Michael Ziki of Administration Police was shot at 17 times in his car by gunmen near the Kiwanja AP camp. At least 17 bullet heads were collected from the scene.

Ziki was the in charge officer of the camp. Locals loved him and described him as a worker who served them well.

His passenger who was in the private car they were using also died in the shooting. Police say they are yet to know the motive of the shooting and those behind it.

He was driving to the camp when gunmen who were in a different car overtook him while shooting at him killing him on the spot.

Those who visited the scene said the gang the shooting happened at about 9 pm.

Kiambu County police boss James Mugera said they suspect the attackers had been trailing the deceased before the shooting incident.

“We are yet to know the motive of the shooting but it looks like a pure murder and robbery. They grabbed his gun and left after the shooting,” said Mugera.

Other officers said the attackers used an AK47 rifle in executing the murder.

“It seems to have been a well planned and executed murder. An AK47 rifle is a rare weapon to be used by ordinary thugs,” said an officer.
