Raila should steer clear of sideshows that cannot bear any fruit

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s vow to haul President Kenyatta to court is a populist move that will serve no purpose.

Hon Odinga wants the President to answer to queries why he allegedly edited out the name of the embattled Devolution CS from a confidential dossier that led to suspension of top state officials from government over corruption allegations, while the CS remained put despite being in the said dossier.

According to the former PM, he claims to have evidence to prove that CS Waiguru’s name was on the original list.

It is totally worthless for Raila to say that he wants to take the President to court even though we all know that it is impossible to constitute a legal proceeding against a sitting president. Furthermore, it is even harder to get the sitting president to testify in a court proceeding. Hon Raila should have known better than this.

Raila in his earnest fight against corruption in the country should stay clear of sideshows and populist moves that cannot bear any fruits.

He needs to come up with concrete solutions and policies that are enforceable to ensure the complete purge of corruption from the government and country as a whole.

Corruption has tainted the image of this country with it grabbing headlines in reputable international news agencies and that is why the fight against it should be based more on real issues at hand but not sideshows.

Raila also risks being seen to have taken the fight personally and therefore he needs to take the right precautions to ensure the fight is out of genuine concern but not politicised. Corruption is a scourge that needs to be fought with the degree of seriousness it deserves.
