Kenya to benefit as Chinese President Xi Jinping announces ban on domestic ivory trade

NAIROBI: The President of China, Mr Xi Jinping, and the President of the United States, Barack Obama, made history by announcing that the two countries would take swift action to protect elephants from the ongoing poaching crisis.

Kenya may be among the biggest beneficiaries of the annoucement as her elephants have been felled by poachers targeting the Chinese markets with ivory and related products. Dozens of kilos of ivory have also been impounded by Kenyan security officials while on transit heading to China.
