CORD: President Uhuru Kenyatta feared defeat in Makueni County

NAIROBI: The Opposition has claimed President Uhuru Kenyatta rejected a commission's report recommending suspension of the Makueni County government to avoid setting up an electoral contest where he would suffer defeat.

Several Members of Parliament allied to the Coalition of Reforms and Democracy (CORD) claimed President Kenyatta's refusal to disband Makueni was a clear indication that the Opposition was still strong in the area.

"The President misused the powers he was given by law," said Orange Democratic Movement Chairman John Mbadi.

Homa Bay MP Opondo Kaluma said Wiper Party was still strong in the area.

However, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr welcomed the decision by the president.

Makueni MP Daniel Maanzo said the decision Uhuru took was not popular with majority of county residents.
