Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia FC have thanked President Uhuru Kenyatta for cash donation of Sh2.5 million for reaching the Cecafa Kagame cup final and not Sh5 million as previously reported on social media.
In a letter of appreciation to Uhuru, Gor chairman Ambrose Rachier clarified in his letter that the head of state had assisted the club. The letter seen by Standard Digital read in part: “On behalf of Gor Mahia Football Club, I want to thank you profusely for the sum of Sh2.5 million that you very kindly donated to the club and which I received yesterday (Tuesday). Your continued support is highly appreciated by our club.”
On Tuesday, August 18, 2015, Gor players, technical bench and officials were hosted at Statehouse Nairobi for their exemplary performance during the just concluded Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations’ Club Championships held in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania.
Gor Mahia lost 2:0 at the finals to Tanzanian champions Azam FC an act that saw the run away league leaders receive accolades from a number of political leaders in Kenya including the President and the Deputy President.
