Apologise to me or else...Governor Evans Kidero warns Senator Boni Khalwale over Mumias Sugar Company

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero and Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale are on a warpath over the troubled Mumias Sugar Company.

Yesterday, Dr Kidero gave Mr Khalwale three days to apologise through the press following remarks he made on Wednesday linking him (Kidero) to corruption. The governor also wants the senator to pay him damages for alleged character assassination.

But in a rejoinder, the senator scoffed at the demand saying he had no apology to make.

Khalwale told Kidero to stop engaging in ‘legal gymnastics’ when discussing serious matters.

“My mind was very clear when I made the remarks. Kidero owes the people of Kenya an explanation on what happened in MSC during his tenure and also apologise to the poor farmers,” insisted Khalwale.

Kidero wants Khalwale to admit liability and thereafter engage with him in negotiations regarding award of damages for the “harm suffered as a result of the defamatory words.”

Dr Khalwale said, “If Kidero is dying to confront me, he is an elected leader and will have his time with me when he appears before the Senate’s Public Accounts and Investment Committee, which I chair.”

The senator said the governor will be required to shed more light on his management of Nairobi County, as indicted in the Auditor General report and also expose the alleged fleecing networks imported from MSC to Nairobi County.

Khalwale said he will continue to pursue the MSC matter as the Senator of Kakamega, which is within his mandate to protect the interest of counties.
