In recent weeks, student of Kenyatta university have been complaining of high rate of crime within the university and the surrounding environs. These crimes ranges from burglary, robbery with violence to murder cases. It has become a tradition for the students to lose at least one comrade every week. Kahawa Wendani has been the most hit area. Most Kenyatta university students who live off campus reside in this neighbourhood. More than five cases of robbery with violence have been reported since the beginning of this semester. In all these cases, Kenyatta University students were the victims. The sad part of these heinious crimes is that some of these students were killed when the crime was being committed. The government however has taken appropriate measures to curb these criminals by increasing the number of police officers patrolling the area.
Students who reside within the campus have also had their share of this problem. Some lose their property through burglary and a large number of students have complained that their rooms have been broken into. The main suspects to these crimes are normally their fellow schoolmates. Laptops, phones and clothes are the major assets targeted by the criminals.. It is speculated that once these items are stolen, they are resold through the black markets in Githurai and Roysambu.
