MP George Muchai murder suspects face fresh charges

Kenya: Court charges for the seven suspects linked to the murder of Kabete MP George Muchai have been amended.

The prosecution yesterday reduced the number of robbery with violence charges against the suspects from 10 counts to eight when they appeared before the Chief Magistrate's Court for a mention of their case.

But Erick Muyera Isabwa alias Chairman, Raphael Kimani alias Butcher, Mustafa Kimani alias Musto, Stephen Asitiva Lipapo alias Chokori, Jane Wanjiru Kimani alias Shiro, Margaret Njeri alias Waciuri and Simon Wambugu Gichamba denied the charges.

They were charged before Milimani Chief Magistrate Hannah Ndung'u with committing the offence in Nairobi on February 6. They were accused of robbing Gladys Waithera of a motor vehicle worth Sh600,000 at Green Belt estate in Wangige, Kiambu County, while armed with a G3 rifle and pistols, jointly with others not before the court.

All the accused are also accused of stealing other valuables from the complainant, who was also threatened with actual violence. They allegedly robbed several other victims on similar dates.

Some of the suspects were found with two firearms including one reportedly used to shoot Mr Muchai and his aides. The case will be mentioned on March 30.
