Nakuru All Stars look for swift KPL return

Relegated Nakuru All Stars’ best moment in the Kenyan Premier league was to beat Gor Mahia 2-0, that was only one of their three wins in the league and now they are planning for life after relegation.
They still have one matches to go but the club Chief Executive Officer Robert Muthomi believes they can retain some of the good players and make a swift return to the league next season.
“It is sad we have not managed to achieve our dream of remaining at the top. It has been a great year but the performance has been disappointing on the pitch,” he said.
“That notwithstanding, our aim is to retain some of the good players we have and build on the experience we have had this year in the top league.”
“We have a very young squad that at times showed they can match some of the big boys, but in the end, our inexperience failed us.”
“Our best moment was when we beat Gor Mahia, they had come as champions but our young boys not only scored once but twice. How I wish we would have built on that win,” he said.
The Nakuru based side has had its own internal issues. They have changed coaches several times as they tried to fix the technical problems but in vain.
Muthomi now says that was a learning process and they will go to the lower league smarter and more experienced than they came into the league.
“With what we have gained, we will definitely build on it and make a return to the KPL.”
Meanwhile, any faint hopes of Tusker clinching the 2014 Kenya Premier League title were scuppered by their 2-2 draw against visiting Thika United at the Ruaraka Sports Ground.
Tusker coach Francis Kimanzi admitted after the match they had given up their hopes after the draw.
He, however, added that he was still happy with his side for their improved performance that includes clinching the Top Eight Trophy early this year.
Thika’s Michael Olunga was the chief tormentor in the 22nd minute after he beat Tusker defender Jockins Atudo before placing the ball beyond Tusker keeper Duncan Ochieng’s reach. The brewers hit back immediately with a brilliant equaliser in the 32nd minute through Jesse Were who headed home Kevin Kimani’s cross. — Supersport.com
