Kenyan Premier League: Rift Valley United plot to upset Sofapaka

National Super League side Rift Valley United (RVU) are plotting an upset against Kenyan Premier League (KPL)  side Sofapaka.

RVU (pictured), who have been pooled against KPL giants Sofapaka in the third round of the GOtv Shield competition, have vowed to leave nothing to chance when they face-off on  July 26.

Kennedy Rono, RVU’s captain and the team’s current top scorer, cannot wait to play against his former team.

RVU reached the round after beating Kitale-based Transfoc 2-1 at the weekend and the club president Ssemi Aina relishes their next challenge.

“We can now dare dream, we are no longer the small boys in the game and we cannot wait to rub shoulders with Sofapaka. We are delighted to have qualified for the next level of the competition and now we have to prepare well before our next fixture, with also the National Super League matches in our mind,” said Aina.

He added: “We recently rebranded the team to Rift Valley United from Hotsprings and we want to show the world that the Rift Valley region does not only produce world class athletes, but also has great football talent.”

Aina urged the locals in the region to embrace the team and make it theirs by turning up in large numbers during their home matches to support them.

“ We want to bring back the days of Rivatex and Eldoret KCC which were the darlings of the region football lovers and we have what it takes. All we nee is support from all stake holders,” he said.

Aina added: “After the transfer window opened on Sunday, we have embarked on a serious recruitment drive across the country to beef up the squad for the remainder of the season. Our priority is picking talented players from under privileged backgrounds  to mould and expose them.”

Aina also announced that they will shift their training base to Panpaper Grounds in Webuye.
