President Uhuru Kenyatta leaves for Zuma’s inauguration

Kenya: President Uhuru Kenyatta yesterday left the country for South Africa to attend the inauguration of President Jacob Zuma following the African National Congress’s victory in the just concluded elections.

The plane carrying the President and his delegation departed from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, shortly after 6pm. Deputy President William Ruto led senior Government officials in seeing off the President.

In its first sitting on Wednesday morning, to swear in new MPs, South Africa’s fifth democratic Parliament, elected African National Congress’s (ANC) President Zuma as the Head of State. The ANC secured 62.1 per cent of the national vote controlling eight of the country’s nine provinces to hand  Zuma a second term.
