Things every woman should learn before turning 30

By SHIRLEY GENGA

When you are a young girl, you can get away with anything; from unforgivable fashion crimes, to stupid and even often bad choices. But when you become a woman of a certain age, there are things you have no business getting caught up in.

Thirty is the age when a woman is considered to be coming into her own, she is meant to be wiser, more vocal and unapologetic, and sure about her place on this earth.

In order to get to enlightenment by the age of 30, there are certain life lessons every woman should have learnt by the time she turns 30 or else get doomed.

Ambitious

First, you should have learnt to stop apologising for who you are, just ‘do you’. When a woman is younger, it feels like you have to apologise for simply being you. If you are too ambitious, you are manly; if you speak up too loudly, you are being un-lady like; if you dress one way, you are drab and boring, and if you dress another way, you are too sexy.

But by the time you are nearing 30, you should have learnt that all the rules and expectations are a lie created by somebody nobody knows, and so what you need to do is accept yourself as you are. Secondly, you should never take or allow anyone to take compromising pictures of you. If you are 22, no, maybe 18 and you, unfortunately, give out nude photos all in the name of love, it is a dumb thing to do, but you may be forgiven because of age. But when you are 30 and above, there is just no excuse.

As a woman, you need to understand the value of being discrete and why privacy is a must in bedroom matters because the woman is always the laughing stock never the man.

Booty calls

Thirdly, you should know the difference between a booty call and a relationship, seriously it is not rocket science!

The next time I hear a grown woman cheating herself she is in a serious relationship, which upon close scrutiny is nothing but a booty call, I might just punch myself.  So let me put it simply; just in case you are 30 and over but do not know the difference: A man who only commits or makes time for a woman when he needs to scratch that ‘itch’, there is nothing romantic about it, it is a booty call plain and simple!

And in line with the above, you should also have learnt that bad boys never ever turn into good boys, it only happens in fairy land and in soap operas.

Decorum

Fourthly, you should have learnt how to carry yourself with class or simply pretend to have some. Example, if you must drink, learn how to drink with some class and decorum; dancing on top of tables, or getting stupid drunk until you have no bearings of where you are, may be a little cute when you are 20, but not when you are 30 — it’s just pitiful.

Fifthly, you should have learnt how to use the word ‘no’ and not to put up with any nonsense in the name of love.

Lastly, you should know that you are the only one responsible for your happiness and that no man was put on this earth to save you (from yourself or your life), and to make ‘you’ happy.
