Man stabbed to death over Sh 20 row

A tour guide stabbed a hotelier to death after they differed over Sh20 change in a Naivasha estate.

The two who were incidentally friends differed over the amount in Kamere estate South Lake leading to the death of the middle aged man.The accused fled the scene soon after the incident as emotions run high but was arrested by police hours later.

On arrest he alleged that the deceased had tried to molest him and in a fit of anger he stabbed him leading to death. But according to witnesses, the suspect had bought mandazi from the deceased but they differed on the change.

“The suspect was demanding Sh20 in change but the deceased said that he had handed it over to him and this degenerated into a fight,” said the witness.

The witness narrated how the accused stabbed the hotelier who is also his friend on the chest twice before escaping and leaving him lying in a pool of blood.
The hotelier was rushed to Naivasha district hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival as police mounted a search for the fleeing suspect.

Confirming the incident, Naivasha OCPD Ernest Oponyo said that the suspect was arrested in Hellsgate National Park where he was hiding.
Adding that investigations into the incident had started and the accused would be arraigned in court facing murder charge. “The suspect is been held at the Kongoni police station and the bodyNis lying at the Naivasha district hospital mortuary,” he said.

At the same time, nine Somali aliens were arrested in Gilgil town on their way from Uganda to Nairobi. The nine who included one woman did not have any travel documents and could not explain how they came into the country.

A source said that the nine were travelling in a Matatu from Busia and were nabbed at a police block in Gilgil.
The OCPD has however confirmed the incident and said that the nine would be arraigned in court for been in the country illegally.
