Narc-Kenya presidential aspirant Martha Karua held a cocktail dinner to raise funds for her State House bid.

The Sh10,000-a-plate dinner at the Carnivore on Friday evening was attended by professionals and businessmen allied to the Gichugu MP.

Ms Karua reiterated Kenyans should support her because she is the best candidate to steer the country to the right path through her policies aimed at fighting corruption and promoting transparency and accountability, equal distribution of national resources, development and upholding of the supreme rule of law.

In her 30-minutes speech, Karua accused those in the upper echelons of power as the stumbling block to the fight against graft. She also faulted them for paying lip service to national cohesion, reforms and development.

Said she: “Corruption is rife because of lack of total commitment from those at the top to deal with it. I guarantee you, that I will erode the merchants of impunity by upholding the Constitution.”

Karua also affirmed her position on the election date debate. “Any date for electoral process later than December is unacceptable and unconstitutional.”

The flower party contender has in the recent times intensified her campaigns. This week, she hit the road in Meru, Machakos and Tharaka Nithi counties to consolidate votes. She has also campaigned in other parts of the country.

The dinner also saw the official launch of a special number which contributions to Karua’s campaign kitty can be channelled. She is also set to reach out to her supporters in the Diaspora. Those instrumental in Karua’s presidential secretariat and other volunteers from civil and religious societies, are expected to hold subsequent fundraisers ahead of the poll.

The Friday dinner was preceded by Karua’s unveiling of a secretariat to spearhead her comprehensive manifesto that also includes capitalising on Kenya’s strategic positioning as regional, diplomatic, financial and technological hub. The flower party leader reiterated that unlike her competitors, her campaigns are issue-based and devoid of rhetoric and negative energies.
