NAIROBI: Women in Sustainable Development Silent Spring. This was the title of a book on the environmental dangers posed by pesticides in USA. Written by Rachel Carson in 1962 the book became the cornerstone upon which the environmental movement in USA was built. It took a woman to awaken the green consciousness of a superpower. In 2004, it took another woman, Wangari Maathai, to awaken the green consciousness of the world when she won the Nobel Peace Prize.
